Pune Crime: Baramati Woman Booked For Drugging, Assaulting Husband, Trying To Bury Him Alive

Pune: A 38-year-old woman from Baramati has been booked for allegedly attempting to murder her husband by drugging him, assaulting him with a bat and trying to bury him alive inside a cement structure built in their house.

The victim, Pravin Prakash Jagtap (41), a resident of Indraprastha Society on Jamdar Road in Baramati, is undergoing treatment in hospital and is yet to recover sufficiently to record his statement.

Based on a complaint lodged by his father, Prakash Kanhoba Jagtap (71), Baramati City Police have registered a case of attempt to murder against Sharmila Pravin Jagtap (38). The incident allegedly took place between the night of July 30 and the morning of August 1.

According to police, the couple had been frequently involved in domestic disputes. Investigators alleged that Sharmila administered a poisonous substance to Pravin with the intention of killing him, rendering him unconscious. While he was semi-conscious, she allegedly assaulted him with a bat.

Police further said that she had constructed a square cement enclosure in the balcony attached to the hall of their house. She allegedly placed the unconscious Pravin inside the structure and attempted to seal it by placing stone slabs over it, allegedly intending to bury him alive.

The alleged plan was foiled after the police control room received an emergency 112 call from an unidentified caller. A police team rushed to the spot, broke open the cement enclosure, rescued Pravin, and shifted him to a hospital for treatment.

Initially, members of the Jagtap family were reportedly unwilling to file a complaint. However, Pravin's father later approached Baramati City Police Station on Wednesday night, following which an FIR was registered.

A case has been registered against Sharmila under charges of attempt to murder.

Police are also trying to ascertain the exact nature of the poisonous substance allegedly used and whether anyone else assisted in the alleged crime.
