The Bharari team of the State Excise Department has arrested a person for storing illegally imported liquor at Ghodipada Berwal, along the Ozarkhed-Jawhar road in Trimbakeshwar taluka. The authorities seized the liquor stock and the two-wheeler used for transportationon Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off, the Excise Department raided a makeshift shed, where they discovered 98 boxes of foreign liquor banned for sale in Maharashtra. The seized liquor is valued at Rs 6,83,640, and a two-wheeler used for transportation was also confiscated. The suspect, Anil Raju Gotrane (27, resident of Ghodipada, Berwal, Trimbakeshwar), has been detained.
Liquor Was Meant for Smuggling to Dadra-Nagar Haveli
During the investigation, officials learned that the seized liquor was intended to be transported to Dadra-Nagar Haveli for sale. The accused has been booked under the Maharashtra Liquor Prohibition Act.
The raid was conducted by Inspector Vilas Bamane, Ganesh Nagargoje, and team members Sandeep Deshmukh, VA Chavan, Sagar Pawar, Deepak Awad, Aman Tadvi, and Anita Bhand. The authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover further links in this illegal liquor trade.
