Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Launches Innovative Initiative To Recycle Clothes And Create Jobs For Youths

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) has taken a unique initiative to provide employment to youths by collecting and reusing clothes. The unused clothes will be collected separately in the garbage vans from the residents. The clothes will be recycled at the CSMC Textile Recovery Facility, established at the Railway Station MIDC, the first of its kind in the city. The facility was inaugurated by Municipal Commissioner G. Shreekanth on Friday. The initiative will be operated jointly by CSMC, Ecosatva, CAIF, and Intelicap.

Cloth garbage does not decompose quickly, and hence it accumulates in large numbers. This creates a possibility of fire incidents, which can cause dangerous smoke in the air. Similarly, large-scale water pollution is caused when clothes are thrown in the nullahs. It is difficult to segregate clothes thrown in the garbage. Hence, the corporation has started this unique project.

In the first phase, eight persons have received direct employment at this facility. In the past year, CSMC has collected 110 tons of cloth garbage. Deputy Commissioner Vikas Navhale, Gauri Mirashi, Prayanka Vaze, Sunil Chandak, Ashish Garde, Dr. Rekha Mahajan, and other dignitaries were present.

The collected clothes are segregated into six different categories. The clothes in good condition are washed and cleaned and then brought for resale. The other clothes are reused, and many decorative items are prepared from them. Clothes that are not useful are used as fuel.

The clothes will be collected from the residents of various parts of the city by sending special garbage vehicles. Similarly, residents can directly drop the clothes at the facility at Railway Station MIDC. A help-line number, 7517900928, has been made available for the residents.
