The Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested a 33-year-old man accused of threatening former Congress MLA Zeeshan Siddiqui with extortion demands of ₹10 crore in the name of the underworld’s D-Company. The accused, identified as Mohammad Dilshad Mohammad Naushad, was extradited from Trinidad and Tobago and brought to Mumbai following a Red Corner Notice issued against him.

Threat Emails Cited D-Company and Past Attack

Originally a resident of Darbhanga, Bihar, Dilshad had been working as a labourer in Trinidad and Tobago. The investigation revealed that Siddiqui received threatening emails on April 19, 20, and 21, 2024, demanding ₹10 crore and invoking the name of the notorious D-Company. The emails also threatened Siddiqui and his family with dire consequences, citing the past attack on his father, veteran NCP leader Baba Siddiqui, to intensify the pressure.

Use of International Digital Trail Under Probe

Following these threats, Siddiqui filed a complaint at the Bandra Police Station, prompting a high-level investigation. According to police officials, the accused used an international email ID and number to send the threats. A technical analysis is underway to trace the origin of the email accounts and phone numbers used in the extortion attempt.

Police Seek to Uncover Syndicate Links

During the remand proceedings, police argued that a thorough interrogation of Dilshad is essential to uncover his network, identify the source of the international email ID and number, and determine whether he has any direct or indirect links with organized crime syndicates such as D-Company. On July 31, Dilshad was produced before the court, which remanded him in police custody until August 7 for further investigation.
