Western Railway Collects ₹1.72 Crore In Fines From 51,000 Ticketless Commuters In AC Trains From 2024-25

Mumbai: Western Railway announced on Thursday that they fined more than 51,600 passengers for traveling without tickets in AC locals, collecting a total of Rs. 1.72 crore in penalties during the financial year 2024-25 (only till January). They are asking passengers to travel with valid tickets to avoid problems.

During peak hours, the number of passengers without tickets increases, especially on the suburban trains, which are part of the busiest railway systems in the world. This system carries millions of commuters every day and is known as the "Lifeline of the City." Western Railway is working hard to stop irregular travel and make the journey more comfortable for everyone. They encourage travellers to buy valid tickets to avoid any trouble.

Meanwhile, On the Central Railway, a ticket inspector named Rubina Akib Inamdar collected fines totaling Rs. 45,705 in one day by catching several ticketless passengers.

The Central Railway praised her efforts in a post on X. Rubina caught 150 ticketless passengers on Monday along the Central route. It gets harder to travel on trains when many passengers are traveling without tickets, especially in AC locals and first-class coaches. Some people travel in AC trains and first-class coaches during peak hours even though they don’t have tickets.

To tackle this issue, ticket checkers are doing large-scale inspections on both the Central and Western routes. Rubina Akib Inamdar was especially successful on the Central Line and got praised on social media for her efforts.

Mega Block on Vangaon to Dahanu Road on March 1-2

The Western Railway has announced a scheduled block on the Western route between Vangaon and Dahanu Road on the weekend of Saturday, March 1, and Sunday, March 2, 2025.

This block is taken for the shifting, diversion, and heightening of the monopole. It will last for one hour on both days: from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM on March 1, and from 9:50 AM to 10:50 AM on March 2, 2025. This will impact both the Up and Down main lines.
