Watch: MVA meeting takes place at Sharad Pawar's residence in Mumbai, leaders vow to put consolidated fight after Karnataka results
The meeting was attended by Pawar, his nephew and former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, Supriya Sule, MP, Uddhav Thackeray and Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena, and Nana Patole, the president of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, as well as former Congress minister Balasaheb Thorat and Mumbai Congress president Bhai Jagtap.

Following the recent Karnataka assembly election results, which were a morale booster for the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), the leaders of the coalition met on Sunday evening at the residence of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar to finalize their strategy for the 2024 elections.
The leaders agreed that a united opposition front would have a good chance of defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), as evidenced by the recent assembly elections in Karnataka. According to Sanjay Raut, the results of the polls in the southern state indicate that the Modi wave is coming to a close. "Now it is the turn of the opposition wave to sweep the country," he added.

The leaders noted that despite Prime Minister Modi's extensive campaigning in Karnataka, the BJP's performance was poor. This indicates that the perception of BJP's invincibility has been demolished, and that if the anti-BJP votes are consolidated, it would be possible to defeat the Hindutva party comprehensively. The leaders also agreed that people are more concerned about developmental issues than topics such as Ram temple construction. The MVA plans to focus its campaign on core issues such as high unemployment, inflation, and communal harmony.
While the MVA is attempting to present a united front, there are still lingering issues that could threaten their cohesion. One point of contention is the Congress' insistence on a joint parliamentary committee investigation into the Gautam Adani Group, which other MVA leaders believe is unnecessary given the matter's presence in the Supreme Court. Recently, Sharad Pawar had a private meeting with Adani at his Silver Oak residence, and the NCP had allied with the BJP in supporting the government in Nagaland. Additionally, tensions remain over the issue of Veer Savarkar, with a meeting between Rahul Gandhi and Uddhav Thackeray on the topic yet to take place. Despite these disagreements, the MVA leaders are determined to rally around common developmental issues to win the upcoming elections.
