A commuter at Dahisar (east) station of Metro Line 7 tried to force open the platform screen doors (PSD) that have been installed for the safety of passengers.
The incident took place at 6:24 pm on Sunday (August 7), resulting in an alarm being raised while the train stopped from entering the platform as a precautionary measure. This happens on both 'up' and 'down' lines.
The Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) fixed the problem in just two minutes and hence, it did not affect any commuters.
However, authorities were unaware of what caused the problem and scanned CCTV footage to determine the reason. That is when it emerged that a commuter had tried to forcibly open the PSD.
Significant fines for commuters:
Such acts create impediments to the smooth operation of metro services and therefore commuters should refrain from doing so, urged MMMOCL authorities. Moreover, such acts come under the purview of punishment and attract a fine under the Metro Railway Act (operation and maintenance), 2002. The offender is liable to be removed by any metro railway official and shall also be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to four years, or with a fine which may extend to Rs 5,000, or with both.
