Mumbai: Maharashtra Congress President Harshwardhan Sapkal met Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Friday to discuss preparations for the upcoming local body elections, signaling renewed coordination within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance.
Following the meeting at Thackeray's residence, Sapkal told reporters that the Congress had given its local leadership the authority to decide on seat-sharing and alliances. "Uddhav ji has agreed and mentioned that he is also consulting his party office-bearers regarding alliances," Sapkal said.
Emphasizing the need for unity, Sapkal added that both parties are committed to protecting the Constitution and democracy. He also described the meeting with Thackeray, a key leader of the INDIA bloc, as a "courtesy visit."
Earlier this week, Sapkal had met with Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) president Sharad Pawar to discuss the current political climate in the state. "It is part of my responsibility to stay in touch with our allies," Sapkal said.
