'Unite Over Climate Action...': Aaditya Thackeray's Message To Political Leaders After SC Order In Hyderabad University Land Row

Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA and former Maharashtra minister Aaditya Thackeray on Friday urged political leaders across parties to come together to tackle the issue of climate change.

Aaditya's request to political leaders came a day after the Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the Telangana government to stop the “alarming deforestation activities” until further notice.

Taking to X, Aaditya congratulated protestors who are fighting for "biodiversity in the 400 acres that were being cleared overnight" in Kancha Gachibowli near the University of Hyderabad campus.

Emphasising the need to save biodiversity, Aaditya said, "Biodiversity is crucial, and protecting it too must be seen as the development of the planet—and, more selfishly, the human race. This issue may not be as important to many of us in other states, but across our country, every patch of wildlife and greenery must not just be protected but expanded."

Cautioning about the impact of harm caused to biodiversity, the Shiv Sena MLA said, "Politically too, it may not be too relevant, but it’s only when we start seeing unbearable heat waves, flash floods, landslides, and the economic impact of climate change that we will realize the damage that has been done to the planet."

Urging political leaders from across parties, he said, "I urge all political leaders to unite over climate action."

The clearing of the 400-acre land began on Sunday when the Telangana government deployed scores of earthmovers to level the green cover.

Since then, students and environmental activists have been protesting against the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government in the state, demanding the withdrawal of its decision to auction the land.

Many celebrities also expressed outrage over the bulldozer action on land.
