‘Thank You, Maharashtra’: PM Modi Hails Mahayuti’s Big Lead In Civic Polls

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, January 16, thanked the people of Maharashtra and hailed the BJP-Shiv Sena-led Mahayuti’s strong performance in the civic polls, saying the results reflect growing public support for the NDA’s agenda of development and good governance across the state. The Prime Minister's statement came as the Mahayuti maintained a massive lead in several municipal corporations across the state, including Mumbai and Pune.

In a tweet on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister wrote, “Thank you, Maharashtra! The enthusiastic people of the state have blessed the NDA's agenda of public welfare and good governance. The results of various municipal corporation elections show that the bond between the NDA and the people of Maharashtra has become even stronger.”

Expressing his heartfelt wishes to the party workers, the Prime Minister added that the election outcomes reflect both the experience of the NDA’s governance and its vision for development, which have resonated with the citizens. "This mandate will give greater momentum to progress and is a celebration of the glorious culture connected with the state," he added.

Mahayuti's performance in Mumbai & Other Cities

According to the latest trend, the BJP and Shiv Sena-led Mahayuti have surpassed the halfway mark in the BMC polls, leading on 125 of 227 seats. The BJP emerged as the largest party in India's richest municipality, with 88 seats. Its alliance partner, Shinde's Shiv Sena, won 28 seats. On the other hand, Uddhav Thackeray's Sena has secured victory in 65 seats, while MNS won seven seats.

In Pune, Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar faced a massive setback as the BJP won 96 seats while the NCP could manage only 20, along with three seats won by NCP (SP). Congress won 15 seats. Of the 127 seats declared in Pimpri-Chinchwad, the Yuti won 90 seats, with the BJP winning 84, helping the alliance clear the majority mark. Ajit Pawar's NCP won 36, while political stalwart and NCP patriarch Sharad Pawar failed to open an account in Pimpri-Chinchwad. In Pimpri-Chinchwad, the BJP-Sena alliance is leading on 90 seats, while the NCP is on 34 seats.

In Nagpur, which is Devendra Fadnavis' hometown, the BJP won big, taking 102 of the total 151 seats, defeating the Congress with just 34. Meanwhile, in the Navi Mumbai civic body polls, the Yuti won by a thumping majority, with the BJP winning 65 seats and Shiv Sena winning 42 of the total 111 seats. In Ulhasnagar, the BJP won 37 seats, and its alliance partner, the Shinde Sena, won 36 of 78 seats. In Panvel and Dhule, the BJP cleared the majority mark for the Mahayuti single-handedly, winning 55 out of 78 seats and 50 out of 74 seats, respectively, while the Sena won two and five seats, respectively. Saffron also ruled in Jalgaon, with the BJP winning 46 seats and the Sena 22 of 75.

In Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad, the BJP alone crossed the majority mark, winning 39 of 78 seats while Shiv Sena and NCP won two and 16 seats respectively. In Eknath Shinde's Thane, the Shiv Sena pulled off a victory for the Yuti, winning 75 of 131 seats, while the BJP won 28. The alliance won 104 of 122 seats in Kalyan-Dombivali, easily claiming the victory.
