Thane: Woman dies of suffocation after fire breaks out in bungalow in Kalyan

Jayshree Bharat Mhatre (42) died on the spot due to suffocation and her body was sent to a government hospital for postmortem.

A 42-year-old woman lost her life after a fire broke out at her bungalow in the Chinchpada area of Kalyan town in the Thane district of Maharashtra on Saturday at around 1:30 am.

The Vitthalwadi police officials said that the woman died due to suffocation and the fire was caught due to a short circuit in the bedroom.

Soon after the fire broke out at home, the neighbours informed the local firemen and they rushed to the spot and doused the fire.

The woman, identified as Jayshree Bharat Mhatre (42) died on the spot due to suffocation and her body was sent to a government hospital for postmortem.

Sanjay Gaikwad, senior police inspector, Vitthalwadi police station said, "Fire broke out at the bungalow named 'Aai' in Chinchpada area of Kalyan on Saturday at 1:30 am. The fire broke out in the bedroom due to a short circuit. There was no one in the bedroom at the time of the incident. Everyone in the family was in the hall. After the fire flames started coming out, Jayshree Mhatre went inside to collect all her jewellery due to which she died of suffocation. The woman's son and three other persons tried to douse the flames and also to save Mhatre but in the process, they too were injured."

"Her son and three other persons suffered minor injuries and they were admitted at Sai Care hospital in Chinchpada. All of them were discharged from the hospital after the treatment. The deceased husband was out of town on a pilgrimage at the time of the incident. We have registered an accidental death report (ADR) in this case," Gaikwad further added.
