Over 25 Birds Killed During Tree Trimming In Thane's Rutu Enclave; Forest Department Launches Probe | FPJ
Mumbai: In a deeply disturbing incident, more than 25 birds were killed during a tree-trimming near Rutu Enclave on Ghodbunder Road in Thane on Thursday. 15 have been rescued alive. Many birds are juveniles, a blatant violation of all rules and basic humanity.
The Free Press Journal (FPJ) tried to reach out to Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) over a phone call, but failed to get any response.
Environment Activist Rohit Joshi said that the Forest Department is investigating the incident, and an FIR will be filed under the Wildlife Protection Act. The police are investigating whether the tree branches were cut with TMC permission.
As per initial information, the society members deliberately cut the tree branches as they were fed up with the bird sounds and poop. However, the branch was hit hard, and the birds fell to the ground and died. In total, there were around 100 birds on that tree.
