Thane: TMC receives 138 objections, suggestions after final ward structure formation

Complaints in the form of omission from the voter list, as well as, the inclusion of the name in the voter list in some other wards are included.

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) after the final ward structure formation received 138 suggestions and objections on Monday. Earlier, the Thane civic body set the deadline of July 3 for accepting suggestions and objections. The highest number of complaints (34), was received from the Mumbra ward, while the least number of complaints (4) was received from the Wagle Estate ward, informed TMC officials.

The officials from TMC said, "The Thane Municipal Corporations elections are expected to be held after the monsoon. The Municipal Election Department has been preparing for the elections for the last few months as per the instructions of the State Election Commission. The TMC, as a part of election preparation, has finalized the ward structure and also completed the reservation process. The voter list preparation is also going on. The State Election Commission had on June 23 ordered a draft voter list. Accordingly, the Municipal Election Department had recently released the draft voter list. The total number of voters is 13 lakh 90 thousand 691. There are 7 lakh 45 thousand 424 male voters and 6 lakh 45 thousand 167 female voters. According to this list, the number of voters in the municipal area has increased by 1 lakh 62 thousand 85 thousand."

Objections and suggestions were invited from the citizens on the published voter lists from June 23 to July 3. Accordingly, a total of 138 complaints regarding errors in voter lists have been received by the Municipal Election Department so far.

TMC Deputy Commissioner Maruti Khodke said, "The list for the Assembly elections has been maintained. The complaints received have been heard by the ward committee and the voter list will be finalized accordingly. "
