On Saturday, July 30 at around 9:40 pm a lift in a Thane high-rise apartment had a freefall and fortunately, there was no casualty reported during the incident. The incident took place in Verraton Olivia Apartment in Neelkant Woods at Manpada in Thane (West).

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) additional commissioner Sandeep Malvi stays in the same apartment.

Speaking with the FPJ correspondent about the lift freefall incident Sandeep Malvi, TMC additional commissioner said, " The apartment is built by a well-known builder and such incident should not happen but unfortunately it happened. The PWD team have been informed about it and they will be carrying out the audit. After the audit report if there is any fault from the lift service provider side then we will see into the matter. "

The Thane regional disaster management cell (RDMC) team received the information at disaster management room that the lift of ground+P1+P2+31st floor of Verraton Olivia apartment had a freefall. The S1 lift in the building fell from the P1 floor to the ground floor.

Avinash Sawant, RDMC chief, Thane said, " When we received the information about the lift falling from P1 floor and crashed in the ground floor in the basement we reached the spot along with Manpada police station police personnel, disaster management cell team and fire brigade personnel with one fire engine. TMC additional commissioner Sandeep Malvi was also present at the spot. The swiggy delivery boy Anil Thate (41) was trapped inside the lift and he was safely pulled out with the help of disaster management cell and fire Brigade personnel."

Sawant further added, "The S1 lift in the said building has been sealed with security tape by the fire brigade personnel and disaster management department personnel for safety reasons."
