Commuters travelling through Ghodbunder Road in Thane this weekend are likely to face slower traffic movement and longer travel times as the Thane Traffic Police have announced temporary diversions near Brahmand Junction for foot over bridge work.

According to the notification issued by the Traffic Department, girder erection work for a new foot over bridge near Mullabagh Bus Depot at Brahmand Junction will take place between the night of May 8 and the morning of May 10.

As part of the arrangement, the route from Brahmand Signal towards Manpada and Kapurbawdi will remain closed for all vehicles during the work period. In another major restriction, entry to the Manpada Bridge ramp near the MG Motors showroom on Ghodbunder Road has also been shut temporarily.

Alternate Routes Suggested For Drivers

To ease congestion and prevent complete gridlock in the area, traffic police have advised motorists to use alternate routes.

Vehicles travelling towards Kapurbawdi from Brahmand Signal will be diverted via Azad Nagar Road, Brahmand Circle and Kolshet Dhokali Road before reconnecting towards their destination.

Meanwhile, motorists approaching from Ghodbunder Road and heading towards Manpada Bridge have been asked to take the slip road near the bridge, continue via Tikujini Wadi Circle and use the Mullabagh Cut route.

Commuters Asked To Plan Ahead

While the work is expected to improve pedestrian safety in the long run, many regular commuters are already bracing for stressful late night traffic snarls on one of Thane’s busiest stretches.

The traffic restrictions will remain effective from 11:55 pm on May 8 till 6 am on May 10. Emergency vehicles including ambulances, police vehicles, fire brigade services, oxygen supply vehicles and green corridor movement will remain exempt from the restrictions.

The advisory has been issued by the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Department, Thane City.
