Thane: 2-Year-Old Boy Injured After Falling 20 Feet Into Open Sewer Chamber
A two-year-old boy in Thane was injured after falling nearly 20 feet into an open sewer chamber near Dnyanasadhana College. Local residents rescued him before officials arrived, and he was hospitalized for treatment. The chamber was left open due to an obstructing iron pipe, which was later removed. Authorities urged swift action to prevent such safety lapses.

Thane: Thane: Rainwater accumulates in many low-lying areas in Thane city. Pumps have been installed in many places to drain this water. Pipes have been laid in some places to carry away the rainwater. However, due to one such pipe, the chamber lid was not closing completely. It has come to light on Tuesday night that a two-year-old boy fell into this half-open chamber.
Locals rushed and pulled him out before the rescue system arrived. The boy is injured and has been admitted to the hospital for treatment. However, this incident has once again raised questions about the functioning of the Thane Municipal Corporation.

Hamdan Gufran Qureshi (2 years old) lives in the Rabodi area of Thane. His relatives live near the Mental Hospital. On November 18, at night, he was going to his relatives with his mother. While walking on the footpath at Dharmveer Nagar in front of Gyansadhana College, he lost his balance and fell into a gutter chamber meant for the storm water pipeline nearby.
This chamber was approximately 20 feet deep. Due to this incident, his mother was scared and screamed for help. Local citizens rushed to help. After that, some citizens informed the main fire control room.
Upon receiving this information, Thane Municipal Corporation Disaster Management Officer Yasin Tadvi, Noupada Kopri Ward Committee Assistant Commissioner Jamnor, Deputy City Engineer Sudhir Gaikwad, Disaster Management Cell team, Thane Disaster Response Force personnel, as well as engineers from the construction department and water supply department reached the spot.
Meanwhile, the locals pulled the boy who had fallen into the chamber out until the teams arrived. As he was injured, he was first admitted to the District Government Hospital and then to Jupiter Hospital for treatment. It is not yet understood how much injury the boy has sustained. The lid of the open chamber was not closing due to an iron pipe.
Due to this, the disaster management team cut the pipe with the help of a grinder and gas cutter for safety reasons and closed the chamber. But this open chamber could have cost a young boy his life. Therefore, this incident has once again raised a question mark on the functioning of the Thane Municipal Corporation.
