Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Transfer Of CJ DK Upadhyaya To Delhi High Court
The SC Collegium, headed by the Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, also recommended transfer of Justice Alok Aradhe, Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, to the Bombay HC. Justice Aradhe from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium on Tuesday recommended the transfer of Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court to the Delhi High Court.
The SC Collegium, headed by the Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, also recommended transfer of Justice Alok Aradhe, Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, to the Bombay HC. Justice Aradhe from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
CJ Upadhyaya, who hails from the Allahabad HC, was appointed as Bombay HC CJ on July 24, 2023. He succeeded CJ RD Dhanuka, who retired on May 30, after a brief tenure of four days.

Justice Upadhyaya’s name was recommended by the SC Collegium headed by then Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on July 6, 2023. The resolution read, “He has been functioning there since his elevation and has acquired experience of more than 11 years in dispensing justice in the largest high court in the country. On the appointment of Justice Upadhyaya, the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad which is the largest High Court with a total judges strength of 160 would get adequate representation among the chief justices of high courts.”
He was appointed as judge of the Allahabad HC on November 21, 2011 and is the senior most judge at the Allahabad HC.
The Bombay HC is currently functioning with 64 judges: 54 permanent judges and 10 additional judges.
