Senior Citizen Fatally Run Over By BEST Bus In Mumbai's Mazgaon; Byculla Police Arrest Driver

Mumbai: An 84-year-old woman lost her life after being run over by a BEST bus in Mazgaon, South Mumbai. The deceased, identified as Asmaben Tayab Ali Antari, had been a passenger on the same bus before the accident. Byculla Police have arrested the bus driver, 32-year-old Dadu Krushna Agivale, in connection with the incident.

On Friday morning, Asmaben had visited a mosque and was returning home when she alighted at the Love Lane bus stop. As she attempted to cross the road from the front of the bus, she came into contact with the front left tyre and fell. The bus then ran over her, causing fatal injuries.

A police officer stated that the driver did not initially notice the accident, but pedestrians raised an alarm, prompting him to stop the vehicle. Despite efforts to rush her to Sir J.J. Hospital, doctors declared her dead before admission.

Following the incident, police arrived at the scene and detained bus driver Agivale, who was later formally arrested. A case has been registered against him under Sections 281 and 106(1) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway.
