The assembly witnessed intense debates and chaos over the Disha Salian case on Wednesday, with ruling party MLAs aggressively demanding an investigation into Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray.
The controversy reignited earlier this week after Disha’s father, Satish Salian, through his lawyer, met the Mumbai Police commissioner and made serious allegations against Thackeray.
As a result, the issue led to disruptions in both houses of the legislature, with ruling party members demanding Thackeray’s resignation and a thorough probe into his alleged involvement. However, opposition MLAs countered these claims, stating that the case is five years old and is being used for political gain.
In the Legislative Council, BJP MLA Bhavana Gawli demanded a narco test for Thackeray. Meanwhile, legislators stormed the well of the house, creating a ruckus. Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad questioned whether Thackeray would resign, just as Dhananjay Munde did in a separate case.
BJP MLA Ram Kadam also raised questions about the case, asking why the then Uddhav Thackeray-led government swiftly returned the apartment where actor Sushant Singh Rajput died. He accused leaders of the Uddhav faction of defending actress Rhea Chakraborty and demanded an investigation into the previous government’s role in the case.
Congress MLA Nana Patole dismissed the discussion, stating that the incident is five years old and does not require further debate. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Varun Sardesai countered by reminding the house that the CBI had already investigated the matter and given a clean chit.
However, Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, assured that a probe would be conducted into the allegations made by Salian’s father. Minister Shambhuraj Desai also emphasised that if new evidence emerges, justice must be served.
