Retired Brigadier Santosh Kumar Kurup Appointed To Train Maharashtra Police In Anti-Naxal Operations
Officials stated that this training will enhance police capabilities in handling Naxal operations in extreme conditions. A senior police officer noted that in recent years many naxals have surrendered or have been killed and their numbers, presence, and capabilities have reduced, with fewer locals joining their ranks in Gadchiroli.

Mumbai: The state government has approved the appointment of retired Brigadier Santosh Kumar Kurup on a contract basis at the Unconventional Operations Training Centre in Nagpur.
He will train police personnel in anti-Naxal operations, including river crossing, jungle operations, raids, ambush, jungle survival, map reading, planning & briefing, parachute drill, field craft lecture, night observation, field signal, advance weapon handling, etc.

About Gadchiroli Encounter
Last week, an inspector of special commando unit C-60 died after an exchange of fire with Naxalites in Gadchiroli district. The Maharashtra government’s extensive anti-naxal operations and its dedicated surrender and rehabilitation programme have led to the surrender of 50 hardcore Maoists from 2022 to date and this year so far 17 surrenders of the Naxals have taken place.
