The Property Tax Department of Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has collected a whopping ₹370 crores in the financial year 2024-25, setting a new record for the highest-ever tax collection.
During the month of March, the civic body is reported to collect an average of ₹1 crore per day in property tax. "On March 19, the corporation surpassed last year’s record with record-breaking tax collection. In the previous year, the total collection was ₹360 crores as of March 31, but this year, the record was broken 10 days earlier," said an official.
The collection is attributed to the strategic planning and execution by the Property Tax Department. The staff from the head office and all four divisions are reported to have been working without taking any leave until the end of March. "They didn't even take leaves on Saturdays and Sundays. To prevent financial losses, the corporation initiated seizure actions against defaulters. Thirteen dedicated teams have been deployed for tax recovery, operating across all divisions under the leadership of the respective division officers," said an official.
To prevent revenue loss, the municipal corporation has intensified direct tax recovery actions in various areas, including CIDCO-transferred zones, Marble Market, Jawahar Industrial Estate, Taloja Industrial Estate, and Panvel Industrial Estate. Property tax defaulters who have already received seizure notices are now being issued warrant notices. "Additionally, attachment proceedings against defaulters have commenced, and it is crucial for them to take this matter seriously," added the official.
