Palghar, Maharashtra: An First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against unknown individuals for alleged environmental degradation, including the destruction of mangroves and illegal dumping of debris, near the Surya River creek in Maljipada, Naigaon East. The complaint highlights significant ecological damage in an area adjacent to a cremation ground.
The case was filed on June 24, 2025, by Arun Bajnath Mutadak (47), a Mandal Officer residing in Kaman, Vasai. According to the complaint, which covers incidents from May 14, 2025, to the present, environmental damage has occurred at Government Survey No. 11 in Maljipada.
The complaint states that at the site, near the main creek where a cremation ground and a partially constructed ritual temple are located, mangroves have been unlawfully cut down. Furthermore, stones and construction debris have been dumped next to a cricket ground situated near the temple, severely harming the local environment.

The Naigaon Police Station has registered the case under Sections 15 and 19 of the Indian Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. These sections deal with penalties for contravention of the Act and cognizance of offenses.
Authorities are now working to identify the individuals responsible for the environmental destruction.
