Navi Mumbai Traffic Alert: Atal Setu Closed For MMRDA Marathon On February 16; Alternate Routes Announced

Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Traffic Police have announced traffic restrictions on the Atal Setu also called as Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) due to a marathon organized by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Sunday, February 16. The marathon will take place from 4 am to 12 pm covering the Mumbai (Sewri) to Chirle (Navi Mumbai) route.

To facilitate the smooth conduct of the event and avoid congestion, vehicular movement on Atal Setu will be restricted from 11 pm on February 15 to 1 pm on February 16. The order, issued by Assistant Police Commissioner (Traffic) and Additional In-charge Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Navi Mumbai, Vitthal Kubde, falls under the Motor Vehicles Act, Sections 115 and 116 (1) (A) (B) as per a Maharashtra Government notification dated September 27, 1996.

Under the restrictions, all vehicles except those essential for the marathon will be prohibited on Atal Setu during the specified period. Commuters traveling between Mumbai, Pune, Uran, and JNPT would be affected by this.

Authorities have advised motorists to use alternative routes, including the Gavan Phata, Uran Phata, and Vashi routes for those coming from Uran, and the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway via Belapur and Vashi for Pune-Mumbai traffic. Vehicles from Konkan and Panvel will also be diverted through Uran Phata and Vashi, the notification issued by the traffic department, said.

Exemptions will be granted to police vehicles, fire brigades, ambulances, and other emergency services, as well as vehicles directly involved in the marathon. The traffic police have urged commuters to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid inconvenience.
