Navi Mumbai: In a shocking display of disregard for law and order, broken liquor bottles were found strewn across the footpath right outside the Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner’s Office. The incident has raised serious concerns about the growing boldness of antisocial elements and the apparent weakening of police deterrence in the city.
Open consumption of alcohol has become increasingly common in Navi Mumbai, with groups often seen drinking in public spaces such as open grounds, pavements, and areas in front of liquor stores. However, this latest instance occurring directly in front of the city’s top law enforcement office has stunned citizens and civic observers alike.
Residents say such scenes are no longer rare. “People drink openly even in front of authorities. When this is happening right outside the Commissioner’s Office, it shows how emboldened such elements have become,” said one local resident on condition of anonymity.
The presence of smashed liquor bottles so close to a major government establishment has sparked criticism about lax enforcement and has prompted calls for stricter policing and surveillance in sensitive zones.
The incident underscores a deeper issue says activist. "the apparent loss of fear or respect for law among those engaging in such public nuisance. It remains to be seen what steps the police will take to restore order and send a strong message against open alcohol consumption in public places," said Sudhir Dani.
