Navi Mumbai News: NMMC Ramps Up ‘Majhi Vasundhara’ Efforts With Tree Plantations, Plastic Ban And Water Conservation
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is intensifying efforts to enhance its performance in the Maharashtra Government’s ‘Majhi Vasundhara’ campaign under the guidance of Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde.

Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is intensifying efforts to enhance its performance in the Maharashtra Government’s ‘Majhi Vasundhara’ campaign under the guidance of Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde. Navi Mumbai recently earned the title of the best environmentally friendly city among ‘C’ category municipal corporations, and this year, the administration aims for even greater achievements.
During a review meeting, Dr. Shinde directed officials to expedite environmental initiatives and complete all planned actions by March 30. The Garden Department has been instructed to prioritize native tree plantations, with a particular focus on bamboo cultivation. Tree plantation drives will be conducted along the Sion-Panvel Highway and in MIDC areas, with an emphasis on utilizing CSR funds for increasing the city’s green cover.
To further environmental efforts, the Commissioner emphasized developing nurseries in parks, increasing the number of seed collection centers, and launching public awareness campaigns. Strict enforcement against single-use plastic will also be a priority, with inspection drives and penalties for violators.
“In line with the Central Government’s ‘Water Conservation – Water Partnership’ initiative, housing societies will be encouraged to implement on-site water conservation measures,” said the commissioner adding, the need for systematic planning, inter-departmental coordination, and strict execution of all initiatives.
Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar will conduct regular reviews to ensure progress. Dr. Shinde reaffirmed NMMC’s commitment to maintaining Navi Mumbai’s high environmental standards and improving its ranking in the ‘Majhi Vasundhara’ campaign.
