Navi Mumbai News: LPG Cylinders Worth ₹13.91 Lakh Seized In Vashi Raid, 2 Arrested For Illegal Hoarding And Black Marketing Amid Supply Concerns

Navi Mumbai, April 3: The Civil Supplies Department cracked down on illegal gas cylinder hoarding in Vashi, seizing goods worth Rs 13.91 lakh and arresting two accused who were allegedly attempting to sell cylinders at inflated rates amid a supply shortage.

Raid conducted following tip-off

The flying squad of the Rationing Controller and Civil Supplies Department conducted the raid at Sector 11 following a tip-off, seizing 123 cylinders and four tempos. The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior officials from the department’s Churchgate office and Thane division.

Two accused arrested, case registered

The accused, identified as Irfan Shaikh (25) and Firoz Kawas, were taken into custody by Vashi police. A case has been registered against them under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, for violating government guidelines and hoarding essential commodities.

Illegal stockpiling at agency

According to officials, the raid targeted the ‘Right Connection’ agency located in Sai Baba Arcade building, which was allegedly stockpiling gas cylinders in violation of norms.

During the operation, 55 filled cylinders found in vehicles and 68 empty cylinders stored at the office premises were recovered, taking the total to 123 cylinders.

Action part of wider crackdown

An official from the Civil Supplies Department said the action was part of ongoing efforts to curb black marketing and ensure fair distribution of essential commodities during the current shortage. Further investigation is underway under the supervision of senior officers.
