Mumbai’s Beloved Indie Dog Laila Still Missing; Social Media Campaigns Continue

Mumbai: For more than two months now, the BKC police have been unable to locate the widely admired community dog Laila, which went missing from a suburban mall. The dog was allegedly subjected to forceful relocation from the mall post midnight after being fed biscuits.

Although living on the premises of a suburban mall in Mumbai, Indie-breed community dog Laila was widely popular on social media and was admired by several people. However, the dog was allegedly abducted and illegally relocated from its territory on May 21. The BKC police registered a first information report (FIR) in the matter on May 30.

According to the FIR reported by BKC-based animal activist Shiraj Ahmad, a restaurant worker had seen a few men serving biscuits to Laila post 1am and when he enquired about it, they claimed that they were there to take the dog away. The men, who were identified as Chetan Salvi, Suraj Chauhan and Parvez among others, allegedly lodged the dog in their car and took it away.

However, Ahmad was informed about the issue four days later after which he filed a complaint with BKC police. The animal activist also tried looking for the Indie dog with the employees of his organisation and even pasted posters in the area, but in vain. However, a person who came across his social media post, had informed him that he had seen Laila in Sanpada.

Even after more than two months now, the police and the activist have not been successful in locating Laila. A lot of animal lovers have also taken it to their social media to spread a word about the missing dog. Animal lovers have also been expressing sadness over Laila missing and are keeping a tab on its status.

Ahmad, who runs Humanity World Foundation, said, “I hope that Laila is found soon and is brought back to its home.”
