Mumbai/Pune: Traffic on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway was severely affected on Friday as multiple vehicles reportedly broke down due to clutch plate failures, creating major congestion on the busy route.

The incident, shared on X, warned motorists about the disruption and advised them to avoid non-essential travel along the stretch. The post stated that “multiple vehicles” had broken down, leading to traffic piling up and the highway becoming choco-blocked amid the long weekend rush.

The timing of the breakdowns coincided with heavy traffic flows for the Independence Day long weekend, as thousands of vehicles travelled towards tourist destinations along the corridor. Live traffic data on Google Maps showed a long stretch of red, indicating prolonged delays on the route.

The Mumbai–Pune Expressway is a key arterial road connecting two major cities and is known for experiencing a surge in vehicles during holiday periods. The breakdowns and resulting congestion added to the travel challenges for those heading out for the extended weekend.
