With monsoon reviving over Konkan and in the ghat areas of Maharashtra, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai and Thane in the next 48 hours.
The IMD has also warned against venturing near the sea as there is a possibility of a high tide and gusty winds up to 60 kmph.
According to IMD official KS Hosalikar, a well-marked low pressure area has formed over Bay of Bengal and coastal Odisha, resulting in good rainfall in Mumbai in the past two days. “People must take precautions while moving outside, especially near beaches and coastal areas,” he said.
Incessant rainfall has also lowered the city temperature to 28 degrees Celsius from 32 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature recorded in Santacruz on Tuesday was 24.6 degrees Celsius and the maximum was 28.1 degrees Celsius, with a relative humidity of 94%. Colaba experienced a minimum temperature of 25.0 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 27.6 degrees Celsius, with a relative humidity of 95%.
Meanwhile, the city also witnessed an air quality index (AQI) of 13, which is considered ‘good’, in comparison to other cities like Delhi, Pune, and Ahmedabad, which experienced an AQI of 48, 17, and 28, respectively.
The lower the AQI value, the cleaner the air, while a higher AQI indicates a greater level of air pollution and health concerns.
