Mumbai: A huge roadside tree collapsed from its roots on a running taxi in Shivaji Park on Wednesday morning. The taxi driver, Salman Khan (35) sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to Bhabha hospital in Bandra. His condition was stable as of Wednesday evening.
BMC Says Tree Was Recently Trimmed but Internally Infected
As per BMC’s garden department, it was a full ground Rain Tree and in sound condition externally. “The trimming of all the trees on LJ Road was done very recently as it is the road from where Ganpati processions are carried. When it collapsed, it was observed that it was infected internally, weakening its roots,” the official said. The officials said the weakening of roots due to increased road concretisation cannot be ruled out.
