Mumbai Traffic Update: Entry From Gold Spot Junction To Gokhale Bridge In Andheri Banned From April 1 To May 15; Residents Express Frustration

Mumbai: Andheri residents are set to experience severe traffic congestion as the final phase of construction on the Gokhale Bridge gets underway. The last stretch of work, connecting Gokhale Bridge to Teli Gully Bridge, has started, necessitating a complete closure of the Gold Spot Junction-Gokhale Bridge route to vehicular traffic from April 1 to May 15, 2025. In response, the Mumbai Police announced alternative traffic routes to mitigate disruptions.

As per the advisory issued by the traffic department, motorists traveling from Gold Spot Junction towards Andheri West via Teli Gully Bridge must take the Teli Gully Bridge eastbound before proceeding towards Andheri West via Gokhale Bridge. Meanwhile, vehicles moving from Gokhale Bridge towards Gold Spot Junction eastbound will be redirected through the Teli Gully Slip Road.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is transitioning the bridge from a tarred road to concrete, ensuring long-term durability. Once the construction is complete, the road will be fully reopened for traffic. According to a Lokmat Times report, a BMC official highlighted that, at present, only a single lane remains operational, forcing vehicles to navigate in both directions on the same stretch, worsening congestion.

The situation has triggered frustration among local commuters. A resident of Andheri, Suheil Merchant, voiced his frustration on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Motorists using Andheri Gokhale Bridge and Teli Gully Bridge, get ready to face traffic snarls due to temporary diversions. Two-way traffic movement on the same lane. Being an Andherite is now a CURSE.”

Despite the current inconvenience, work on the Gokhale Bridge, a crucial link between Andheri East and West, is progressing rapidly. According to a Lokmat report, the entire bridge is expected to be completed by the first week of May 2025, with traffic expected to resume by the second week of May.
