Mumbai-Thane Drive Time To Reduce By 15-20 Minutes After Inauguration Of New Flyover In Bhayanderpada On Ghodbunder Road
Aimed at easing congestion along the busy Ghodbunder highway, the new four-lane Bhayanderpada Flyover is expected to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Thane by 15 to 25 minutes. The project was officially inaugurated on Wednesday by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde

Mumbai: The Bhayanderpada Flyover, a crucial traffic project in Thane, was officially inaugurated on Wednesday by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Aimed at easing congestion along the busy Ghodbunder highway, the new four-lane flyover is expected to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Thane by 15 to 25 minutes.
Calling the flyover a major milestone for the region, Shinde said the project will not only benefit daily commuters within Thane but also streamline connectivity between Mumbai’s northern suburbs, Navi Mumbai, Bhiwandi, Vasai-Virar, Nashik and even Gujarat. The flyover forms part of a unique three-level integrated traffic system, comprising the highway at the ground level, the flyover above it, and the upcoming Metro Line 4 to be built on top.
“This is the first such model in the Thane region,” said Shinde at the event, which was also attended by Transport Minister and local MLA Pratap Sarnaik. “Once Metro services begin, commuters will be able to access Metro stations directly from this corridor. This flyover will accelerate traffic flow not just within Thane but across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), including access to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port,” he further said.
Shinde also announced that further infrastructure upgrades are underway. He revealed that the Metro 4 and 4A lines, connecting Wadala-Kasarvadavli-Gaimukh, will soon be integrated with the Dahisar Metro line. Land acquisition for the connection will begin shortly, in coordination with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
In a social media post, Pratap Sarnaik celebrated the development: “This flyover will provide much-needed relief from traffic congestion for the people of Thane. We are committed to ensuring a smooth, safe, and swift commute. Let’s continue on this path of development.”
MMRDA Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee echoed the sentiment, stating that the infrastructure will not only improve commute times but also fuel economic and industrial activity across MMR, reported Times of India. The flyover’s design allows city traffic to use slip roads and underpasses, while through-traffic can now avoid signals by using the elevated section, leading to reduced fuel consumption and better traffic efficiency.
