Mumbai: Supriya Sule reacts to Abdul Sattar's alleged comment against her

A day after agriculture minister Mr Abdul Sattar used derogatory remarks against her, the NCP MP Ms Supriya Sule, who is the daughter of former union minister Mr Sharad Pawar, on Tuesday broke her silence saying that whatever happened was disgusting but the reaction to it was an example of the civilised face of Maharashtra. Both ruling and opposition parties have strongly objected to Mr Sattar’s derogatory remarks and after much uproar, the minister expressed his regrets while the Shinde camp tendered an apology.

‘’It is no wonder that the derogatory statement made by a ruling party person regarding me has evoked reactions from every corner of Maharashtra. Although this kind of stance is not supported, not everyone is aware of it. I think if someone is going the wrong way and there is a reaction from all over Maharashtra, we don't need to pay more attention to it by recording it,’’ said Ms Sule.

‘’What happened was disgusting but the reaction to it was an example of the civilized face of Maharashtra,’’ noted Ms Sule.

‘’Now there is no need to go into the depth of this. Maharashtra did not like what happened at all. This seems clear from the reactions everywhere. My humble request to all is that we all should not overreact to this now. Thanks again to everyone!’’ said Ms Sule. 

NCP meets Governor; demands for Sattar’s removal

A delegation led by state NCP chief Mr Jayant Patil on Tuesday met the Maharashtra Governor Mr BS Koshyari and demanded that the agriculture minister Mr Abdul Sattar should be dismissed from the state cabinet for his derogatory remarks against the party MP Ms Supriya Sule.

‘’It is unacceptable for a person holding a responsible position in the state government to make such a statement about women,” Mr Patil said.

Mr Patil, who was accompanied by former ministers Dilip Wales-Patil and Hasan  Mushrif, said that this was not the first instance of Mr Sattar’s misbehaviour adding that the minister had earlier asked the Beed district collector whether he drinks alcohol. “This topic will not end with an apology. Making a statement and then apologising will not work in Maharashtra,” he added.
