In a deeply disturbing incident that has shocked residents of Govandi’s Shivaji Nagar area, a 43-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly killing her six-month-old son. Police said the woman, suffering from a serious illness and burdened by severe financial hardship, confessed to strangling her infant.
Unrelated Stabbing Reported Leading To Arrest Of The Ailing Mother
The incident came to light after a seemingly unrelated stabbing was reported near a garment factory on P.L. Lokhande Marg in Chembur on Thursday evening. Upon receiving the alert, Tilak Nagar Police’s Nirbhaya Squad, led by Senior Inspector Manisha Kulkarni, rushed to the scene and detained two women, including the injured victim. During questioning, the 43-year-old woman admitted to attacking the other woman without provocation.
Interrogation Leads To Confession
While being interrogated, she also made a startling confession — that she had murdered her infant son earlier that day. The woman, a resident of Bainganwadi in Govandi, was living with her elderly parents.
Tilak Nagar Police contacted the Shivaji Nagar Police to verify the woman’s claims. Upon visiting her residence, officers discovered the six-month-old boy lying lifeless in a cradle. The body was sent to Rajawadi Hospital for a postmortem.

After giving birth, both she and the child were diagnosed with a critical illness. Unable to bear the emotional and financial toll, the woman smothered her baby with a pillow and then strangled him.
She was handed over to the Shivaji Nagar Police, who registered a case of murder. The accused has been arrested and will be produced before the Kurla Magistrate Court on Friday. The investigation is ongoing.
