Mumbai cops nab 26-year-old 'Indian Mujahideen' member for threat call at airport

The accused called the airport on Monday at 9.43 pm identifying himself as Irfan Ahmed Sheikh, a member of the terror outfit, Indian Mujahideen. The police and the airport security had beefed up the cover after receiving the call.

Mumbai: A 26-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly threatening to carry out a terror attack atthe Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.

The accused called the airport on Monday at 9.43 pm identifying himself as Irfan Ahmed Sheikh, a member of the terror outfit, Indian Mujahideen. The police and the airport security had beefed up the cover after receiving the call.

“We immediately began the investigation in the matter to trackthe location and the true identity of the caller. The caller used a local mobile number which was traced back to Chembur,” said a police official.

“We reached the location and arrested the accused. He will be produced before the court for remand on Wednesday,” added the official.

A case has been registered at Sahar police station against the suspect under the Indian Penal Code section 505 (1) (whoever makes, publishes or circulates any statement, rumour or report, with intent to cause harm to people).

This was the second threat call within a week that Mumbai received. Last Friday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) received an e-mail from an unidentified individual claiming to be a Talibani member threatening to carry out a terror attack in Mumbai.

In January this year, a call was received at Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Mumbai from an unknown caller who threatened to blow up the educational institution. The caller claimed to have planted a time bomb at the school. And a similar threat call from an unidentified caller was received in October last year, the caller had informed that various bombs are planted at several key places across the city.
