Mumbai News: Man Attacked With Sharp Weapon In Goregaon Over Instagram Meme

Mumbai: Offended over a meme posted on social media, five people brutally attacked a 25-year-old man with a sharp weapon in Goregaon leaving him in a critical state.

The victim Nauman Noor Mohammad Thakur posted a reel on social media platform Instagram which depicted two men dancing with a dog. Thakur reportedly used names of local residents in the meme that offended some individuals in the area, leading to the violent assault.

Thakur, who had travelled from Dubai to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with his family, suffered multiple injuries in the attack on Monday. The attackers used a sharp weapon to strike the victim, according to a report in Mid-day.

Thakur was quickly rushed to a hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

The police have identified the accused involved in the attack and have registered a case under sections 118(1), 74, 115(2), and 3(5) of the BNS. The attackers have been identified as Wasim Shaikh, Imran, Tanveer Khan, and Farukh Khan, four individuals from the same locality.

Senior Inspector Sagar Shivalkar of Goregoan police station said, "We have arrested Wasim Shaikh and are tracing the others."

Thakur alleged that the attackers also stole 8000 dirhams (almost Rs 1.86 lakh) and an expensive watch during the assault, but it was not mentioned in the FIR. The police have not yet added attempt to murder charges,” he added.
