Mumbai: Thousands of Chembur residents have been without gas since Saturday afternoon. Officials from Mahanagar Gas Ltd had promised an "early" restoration, but in vain. Hospitals have been the worst affected.
"This is the second time within a month that such a thing has happened. Mahanagar Gas service has nosedived," said R. Ganeshan, a local resident.
Local staff blame a contractor carrying out footpath repairs for damaging the gas pipelines. However, the contractor has denied the allegation.
"Both MGL and the contractor are indulging in a blame game. In the process, we are the ones suffering," observed Vasu Mhatre, another resident.
MGL had promised restoration by 1 a.m. on Sunday, but that hasn't happened.
