Mumbai: The Metro line 3 has shared exclusive pictures on Tuesday via X of the newly constructed Dharavi Metro Station, which is part of the Aqua Line project. Built using the cut-and-cover methodology along the Mithi River, the station has overcome several challenges, including land acquisition issues, traffic diversions, and the relocation of multiple utilities during construction.
The images highlight the station's elevator, corridor, and ticket-checking area, offering a glimpse into the modern infrastructure of this key metro stop. The Dharavi station is a crucial part of Mumbai Metro’s Line-3 (Aqua Line), which spans 33.5 km and includes 27 stations, connecting key areas such as Cuffe Parade, BKC, and Aarey JVLR.
Meanwhile, Mumbai’s underground Metro Line 3 is about to take a big step forward as the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) starts the final safety checks for the 9.77-km stretch between Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli. If everything goes as planned, this part of the Aqua Line could be open to the public as early as next week, as per reports.
Right now, Metro Line 3 is running between Aarey JVLR and BKC, covering 12.69 km since its partial launch on October 7, 2024. Once the BKC-Worli stretch is cleared, it will improve travel across the city. The final 13-km stretch to Cuffe Parade is expected to be completed by July 2025.
According to reports quoting officials close to the project, the CMRS team initiated preliminary inspections on Monday. “They visited the alignment earlier this week and are scheduled to conduct a full-scale inspection around April 10. If everything is in order, services could commence by this weekend or early next week,” as per Hindustan Times report.
