Mumbai: Eight months after 56-year-old Peter D'Souza died in a hit-and-run incident in Santacruz East, the Vakola police have finally registered an FIR. According to police officials, D'Souza was hit by an unidentified motorcyclist who fled the scene without helping the injured man.
D'Souza, a resident of Golibar Maidan in Santacruz East, was struck between 2:00 and 2:30 AM on July 27, near a Hanuman temple. Instead of taking him to a hospital, the rider fled. A man named Rahul Anthony found D'Souza and rushed him to V. N. Desai Hospital, where he was admitted to the ICU. Upon learning of the incident, D'Souza’s niece transferred him to Nair Hospital for further treatment, where he remained hospitalized until he passed away on August 14.
Police said the delay in registering the FIR was due to the victim’s niece initially refusing to lodge a complaint against the unidentified motorcyclist. However, on April 29, police registered a case of negligence under relevant IPC sections and have launched an investigation.
