Mumbai News: BMC Holds 'Fire Safety Awareness Rally' Covering Byculla & Gowalia Fire Stations (Video)

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced the 'Fire Safety Awareness Rally' on Thursday. The rally was carried out from Byculla Fire Station to Gowalia Fire Station. The rally was conducted under 'Fire Service Week', aimed at raising awareness about fire safety and the Mumbai Fire Department.

The Chief Fire Officer, Mr Ravindra Ambulgekar, officially flagged off the rally. Several officials were present in the rally, including Deputy Chief Fire Officers Mr Santosh Sawant and Mr Devendra Patil, along with other officers and fire personnel.

In an X post, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) shared a video of the fire awareness rally held on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the first fire awareness rally organised by the BMC took place in Mumbai on April 5, as part of Fire Service Week. The rally began at the Vikhroli Fire Station and ended at the Mulund Fire Station.

The rally was flagged off by Prashant Gaikwad, the Deputy Commissioner (Finance). The main objective of the event was to educate the public about the services provided by the Mumbai Fire Department and to promote fire safety awareness among citizens.

BMC Imposes 1k Fine For Burning Dry Leaves

In response to a complaint filed by the Mumbai North Central District Forum (MNCDF), the BMC has fined a supervisor at the BEST Depot in Goregaon West Rs 1k. This penalty follows an incident where a sweeper was seen burning dry leaves, which not only breaches BMC regulations but also causes environmental damage.

The BMC acted swiftly, taking action just hours after the MNCDF highlighted the recurring issue on X, pointing out the ongoing problem at the BEST Bus Depot near Goregaon Railway Station.

The MNCDF noted that despite multiple warnings from their flying squad, staff at the depot had continued the harmful practice of burning waste, contributing to air pollution. The forum urged the BMC to tackle the issue and implement a lasting solution to prevent further waste burning at the depot.
