Mumbai: The civic authorities have directed road contractors and operators of Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) plants to coordinate in order to strengthen the RMC supply chain, ensuring the timely concretisation of ongoing roads by May 31.
The BMC has undertaken an extensive project to concrete all roads in the city. A total of nine contractors have been appointed to complete the works. So far, the BMC has successfully completed the concretisation of 1,333 km of roads.
The remaining works are divided into two phases: 698 roadworks (324 km) in the first phase and 1,420 roads (377 km) in phase two. The BMC has instructed contractors not to dig up the concretised roads and to complete all necessary underground utilities work before beginning the concreting process.
Abhijit Bangar, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects), is conducting surprise night visits to inspect the quality of work on ongoing road projects. On Tuesday night, he inspected the concreting work on Road No. 27 in Chembur (East) and visited Milan Road Biltek LLP, a Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) project in the Bandra-Kurla Complex.
During his visit, Bangar reviewed the entire road concreting process. In the F-North ward (Sion area), water pipeline installation is underway as part of the project, with pipelines mostly located under the footpaths to avoid obstructing the carriageway.

Bangar emphasised, “For roads and footpaths to be completed by May 31, the necessary length of pipelines must be laid. Proper coordination with the Hydraulic Engineering Department is crucial. All work must be completed by the deadline while maintaining quality standards.”
