Mumbai, April 3: On Friday, the BMC launched a major crackdown on unauthorised spice vendors in Lalbaug’s Mirchi Galli, clearing stalls that had clogged the historic lane and disrupted pedestrian movement.
Action taken to clear encroachments
Lalbaug’s Mirchi Galli is a historic spice lane renowned for its wide variety of red chillies—fresh, sun-dried, and powdered—along with custom masala blends. Especially vibrant in summer, it caters to both households and restaurants.

Recently, the lane had been clogged by unauthorised street vendors setting up stalls, causing inconvenience to pedestrians. Following directives from Assistant Municipal Commissioner Vrushali Ingale of F South ward, the BMC’s licence and maintenance departments, along with police personnel, took action to clear the lane.
