Mumbai: Metro Line 3, one of the most anticipated projects, reached its final destination on February 28. A trial run was conducted today between Cuffe Parade and Acharya Atre Chowk. This significant milestone marks a crucial step toward the commissioning of Phase 2B, which will connect Acharya Atre Chowk to the Cuffe Parade of the Aqualine.
The Metro 3 trial run covered a distance of 10.99 km. The underground metro line is set to be included on the metro map in March, with fares starting at ₹10 and going up to ₹60, according to reports from The Times of India. This underground transit will provide a much-needed route from noisy, congested roads and overcrowded local trains.
An official from the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) stated, "The corridor will serve as a much-needed alternative to road transport. There will be interconnectivity issues (such as the Dadar Metro station being a kilometer away from the Dadar railway station), but the new line will still provide direct access to commercial hubs like BKC and Worli, which were previously reachable only via congested roads'' as reported by The Times of India.

Originally, Metro Line 3 was envisioned in two distinct phases: from Aarey to BKC and from BKC to Cuffe Parade. However, as construction progressed, the plans evolved. Crossovers were introduced at Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli and at CSMT to facilitate smoother train reversals, making the network more flexible and efficient.
Now the commuters of Mumbai won't face any tariff issues, and commuting between Cuffe Parade and Acharya Atre Chowk will be much easier with the upcoming underground metro.
