Mumbai: MCA Club BKC Faces Mundhe-Led FDA Wrath, Food & Beverage Services Shut Over Hygiene Lapses
Maharashtra FDA suspended Mumbai Cricket Association's BKC facility's food business licence over alleged food safety and hygiene violations. MCA subsequently announced the immediate closure of all restaurants and food and beverage services until further notice. The action comes amid an FDA crackdown that has also seen food licences suspended at several restaurants and clubs across Mumbai.

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suspended food licences of five Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) establishments at its Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) recreation centre after inspections found safety, hygiene and sanitation violations.
Inspections on August 20 found poor refrigeration and storage, inadequate sanitisation, unhygienic premises, improper edible-oil checks and absence of food-grade certificates.
At MCA Oriental Swing, inspectors found improperly calibrated refrigeration equipment, unclean kitchen floor, peeling plaster/paint on the ceiling, inadequate edibleoil checks, poor plate sanitisation and failure to display the FSSAI licence.
At MCA Clubway & Pastry Counter, inspectors found inadequate workspace and storage, while a food handler lacked gloves. Shirke Infrastructure, undertaking food-related activities there, lacked a food business licence. The establishment’s registration certificate was suspended.
The Permit Room, Pavilion and Mediterranean establishments violated food-safety norms involving refrigeration, storage, sanitisation, edible-oil testing and food handling. Suspension orders were issued on August 21.

Elsewhere, Sankalp Mahila Audyogik Utpadak Sahakari Society Ltd’s Mid-Day Meal/Canteen in Kurla scored 53 out of 112 marks (48%), with non-compliance. Inspectors found poor housekeeping, dirty and damaged surfaces, cracked flooring, inadequate pest control and storage, insufficient hand-washing facilities and poor temperature monitoring.
Lenexis Foodworks Pvt Ltd in Mahim had licence suspended over inadequate ventilation, grease deposits on exhausts and hood filters, stagnant water, leaking plumbing, damaged food containers and poor pest control.
At Café Cadell, Shivaji Park, officials found inadequate ventilation and personalhygiene facilities, improper vegetarian/non-vegetarian segregation, poor equipment and crockery sanitisation, and missing water- and food-testing records.
China Town Fast Food Centre, Mulund East, had its registration suspended immediately over cockroach infestation, badly oxidised oil, excessive artificial colour and MSG, uncovered cooked rice, rusted utensils, cross-contamination risk and inadequate drainage.
The FDA warned that hygiene, sanitation, storage, temperature-control, pestcontrol and personal-hygiene violations would strictly attract action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
