Mumbai: A 22-year-old man was arrested on Saturday by the Mankhurd police for allegedly printing fake Indian currency notes worth over Rs 7 lakhs.

As per the police, they had received a tip-off based on which the arrest was made. According to the tip-off, the spot where the fake notes were being produced was in Jyotirling Nagar in Mankhurd.

The accused is identified as Rohit Shah, a salesman by profession and a resident of Kandivali.

When the police raided his residence, they found several properties, including printers, laptops, and other equipment worth Rs 2 lakh that Shah used to develop these fake notes of Rs 200, Rs 100, and Rs 50 denominations.

"We have detained Rohit Shah from the spot where he worked as a salesman in the Mankhurd area. All the property that was put to use to create this fake currency was seized as part of the evidence. A case has been registered against him. Further investigation is on, "said a police official at the Mankhurd police station.

The official continued, "The primary focus of our investigation is to find out how much of these currencies were disbursed outside—in the market. Subsequently, to find out if Shah has any partners or buyers/sellers involved in this business with him."

The police have registered a case against Shah under sections 489A (counterfeiting currency notes or bank notes), 489B (using as genuine, forged, or counterfeit currency notes or bank notes), and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
