Mumbai: Man drowns in Bandra creek, body found; another feared dead
A civic official said that the fire brigade had launched a search operation after it was alerted that two men had gone missing from Mahim causeway late on Thursday night.
A body of one of the two persons who drowned in the creek at SV Road and Sea Link Road Junction was found near reclamation flyover bridge at Bandra on Friday morning. While another man accompanying him is feared dead. Javed Alam Shaikh (28) is the name of the deceased person.
Hemant Parab, chief firebrigade officer said "Two men fell in SV Road, Worli sea link, near reclamation flyover, Bandra (W). We had conducted search operation in the night but we couldn't trace him. In the morning, we had been informed by the locals about body floating near reclamation flyover so we pulled out that body outside and handed over to police."
"We have stopped search operation and second person is still missing" he added.
According to the police, both of them were auto-rickshaw drivers by professionals and residents of Kurla. On the day of the incident, they were returning home from a mosque in the Bandra area.
“We are suspecting the body must have pushed forward towards Mithi River creek as the stream’s flow is increased due to frequent heavy rains. Our officers are navigating through the nullahs towards Mithi River to locate the body,” said Senior Police Inspector Rajesh Devare, Bandra Police Station.
