Mumbai: Man arrested for molesting British national at Bandra club

A 44-year-old British woman, employed with the British Deputy High Commission in Mumbai, has alleged that she was molested by a man at an upscale restaurant at Hill Road, Bandra, on Tuesday. The woman and her husband were dining with friends at the Yacht Resto Bar and she said that the incident occurred when she went to the washroom, around 11.30pm. In her complaint, the woman said that she rushed to her table, after which her husband and friends, with help from the restaurant staff, caught the man and handed him over to police.

The Bandra police have identified the accused as Ghanshyam Yadav, 35, an MBA by qualification who is employed with a private firm. He has been arrested under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 354 (assault or use of criminal force against a woman intending to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harassment of the nature of unwelcome physical contact and advances) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).

Sources from the Bandra police said that Yadav was currently in judicial custody. “He was with his friends and misbehaved with the woman,” the source said.

The manager of Yacht Resto Bar, who identified himself as Padma, told this newspaper, “The man appeared drunk and our staff immediately caught hold of him when the woman alerted us. He was trying to escape. We called the police and got him arrested.”
