Mumbai: Major Fire Breaks Out At Khadakpada Furniture Market In Goregaon, 4-5 Shops Gutted; Visuals Surface

Mumbai: A major fire broke out at the Khadakpada furniture market in Goregaon East at 11.19 am on Saturday, causing damage to several shops. Although no injuries were reported, 4-5 galas were completely gutted in the blaze. After firefighting operations for five hours to control the flames, the fire was successfully contained from all sides by 4.36 pm.

The incident took place in a furniture market near the Raheja building on Saturday. By 11:48 AM, Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) officials classified the fire as a level 3 (major fire). To tackle the blaze, approximately 12 fire engines, 11 jumbo water tankers, and one quick response vehicle were deployed.

The market, located in a densely populated residential area, was blanketed by thick smoke, alarming nearby residents. The MFB used 15 hose lines, including 4 high-pressure lines and 11 smaller hoses, to bring the fire under control.

According to fire officials, the blaze was contained to five to six units, which stored materials like wooden furniture, plastic items, scrap, thermocol, and plywood. The affected area spans approximately 2,000 square meters within a ground-floor structure.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, though the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined. The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, as confirmed by fire officials.

Meanwhile, local residents have raised concerns, noting that some of these units are unauthorised shops located along congested roads. They stress the need for frequent action to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
