The disruption comes a day after an empty local train coach derailed near Dombivli, with repair work at the crossover site continuing to slow down services on the main line.

Kasara Line Hit By Khardi Work
Delays were not limited to the main line. Work related to pre interlocking for the third line near Khardi impacted services on the Kasara route as well. Commuters complained of trains being delayed by over 20 minutes, with platforms filling up as services failed to arrive on time.
The ongoing work is part of a 13.53 kilometre third line project between Kasara and Khardi, aimed at separating suburban and long distance train traffic. The line is expected to be electrified soon, with commissioning to follow after approvals.
Harbour Line Faces Cancellations
On the Harbour line, last minute cancellations worsened the situation. At CBD Belapur railway station, passengers were asked to disembark after a train from Panvel was diverted to the carshed. This led to heavy crowding on platforms as commuters waited for alternative services.
Safety Concerns And Inquiry
The derailment has raised concerns over track safety, especially as it occurred despite recent maintenance work during a mega block. Questions continue over how the incident happened at low speed.
Central Railway has formed a four member inquiry committee, and further action is expected after its report.

Frustration among commuters was evident, with several questioning the lack of coordination. Passenger groups also raised concerns over cancellations and delays, urging authorities to run additional services to ease the rush.
