Mumbai CSMI Airport Customs Seize 10.9 Kg Gold Worth ₹8.47 Crore In Four Cases; Arrest Airport Staff

Customs officers at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (CSMI) Airport in Mumbai seized a significant quantity of gold across four cases, with a total gross weight of 10.923 kg and a provisional net weight of 10.430 kg, valued at approximately ₹8.47 crore.
In the first case, customs officers intercepted a private airport staff member on suspicion and recovered six oval-shaped capsules containing gold dust in wax, concealed in the pockets of his pants. This led to the recovery of gold dust in wax with a net weight of 2,800 grams, provisionally valued at ₹2.27 crore. The staff member was arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act.
In another case, customs officers intercepted another private airport staff member working in the international departure area and recovered seven oval-shaped capsules containing gold dust in wax, concealed in his underwear. This led to the recovery of gold dust in wax with a gross weight of 3,031 grams and a net weight of 2,900 grams, provisionally valued at ₹2.36 crore. The staff member was arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
"During the night shift, on suspicion, customs officers intercepted another private airport staff member and recovered gold dust in wax (two pouches) with a net weight of 1,610 grams, provisionally valued at ₹1.31 crore. The gold was concealed in the undergarment worn by him. Further investigation and follow-up led to the arrest of three persons, including the said airport staff member, under the provisions of the Customs Act," said a customs official.
During the rummaging of garbage bags from an international flight, customs officers found two black-colored pouches inside the bags containing trash from the aircraft's lavatories and pantry. The black pouches contained gold dust in wax with a gross weight of 3.269 kg, a provisional net weight of 3.120 kg, and a provisional value of ₹2.53 crore.
